The NPFL All Stars selection kicked off their tour of Spain with a 1-2 loss to Spanish La Liga club Valencia CF in a drab encounter played in Alzira on Wednesday night.
The game, which came about as a result of the friendship pact between the League Management Company and La Liga, kicked off by 8pm Nigerian time.
Valencia dominated proceeding thrugh out the encounter, while the NPFL All Stars appeared jittery, giving away the ball carelessly and finding it difficult to string together four passes.
The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute when Medran jumped above Captain Chima Akas to direct a left wing pullout past the onrushing Nigerian keeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
The goal did nothing to spark the game into action as the hosts still kept possession and kept gradually probing in an attempt to pry open the NPFL All Stars team but the All Stars defense line refused to cave in again. Etim Matthew, Chima Akas, Jamiu Alimi and Enyimba captain Chinedu Udoji ensured that Valencia’s domination did not result in more goals.
Against the run of play, The All Stars equalised in the 32nd minute when the Valencia keeper flapped at a corner kick under pressure from Godwin Obaje and Enyimba winger Joseph Osadiaye nodded the lose ball into an empty net.
The second half was once again all Valencia and their dominance finally paid dividends when Rodrigo Moreno collected a long range pass and dribbled past Ezenwa to slot into an empty net past the despairing plunge of Udoji in the 82nd minute to give Valencia a deserved victory.
