Nigerian U17 and U20 youth international Orji Okonkwo is over the moon after signing for top Italian clubside Bologna. Orji was a member of the Golden Eaglets team that won the U17 World Cup in Chile last year where he scored with a spectacular 35 yard missile in the semi final game against Mexico.
After the World Cup, the burly attacker was linked with top clubs like Chelsea and West Ham United though nothing concrete ever came from those clubs.
He continued national team duties with the Flying Eagles and came off the bench to score in the Flying Eagles 3-4 home loss to Sudan that saw them being eliminated from the African Youth Championship.
While the AYC qualifiers was going on, his intermediaries Femi Kingston and Danny Shittu were busy working round the club to fix him up in a club where he would be able to develop as a player, and after considering many offers they finally decided to pitch tent with Serie A side Bologna.
“I’m elated at the chance to play for a top club like Bologna,” Orji revealed to papilonews.com. “It’s a big chance for me to fulfill my dreams and play at the highest level.”
