38 and Counting: Osunwa becomes All time Top scorer Leagues of Arab countries

Red hot Nigerian striker Kelechi Osunwa etched hs name into the history books of not just Sudanese football after he emerged the player with the highest number of goals in a single league season and the very first player to win the top scorer award in the Sudanese league for five times, but in the history books of the entire Arab world by becoming the All time Top scorer in Leagues of all Arab countries when he scored a hat trick against Al-Ahly Atbara to take his league tally to 38 goals this season.

The feat also made Osunwa the All time highest goal scorer in the history of Sudanese football according to reports reaching papilonews.com.

Osunwa’s record breaking hat trick which took him to the top of the Arab leagues goals chart saw him break a 35 year old record set by Nacer Bouiche of JS kabylie of Algeria when he scored 36 league goals in the 1985/86 season. Younis Abid Ali of Al-Shorta of Iraq could only tie this record in the 1993/94 season.

Osunwa still has a chance to further extend his tally as his club Al Ahly Shendi still have two games left in the Sudani Premier league. Both games are away to Al Khartoum and one of Osunwa’s old hunting grounds Al Merreikh for whom he scored 104 goals in 167 games.
