Super Egles star Alex Iwobi exorcised the demons of his horror own goal against PSG in the last Champions League match day 2-2 draw in London when he shot the Gunners to an important victory away in Basel that meant the 2-2 draw was immaterial as PSG themselves only managed a 2-2 draw at home to Ludogerest in the other match in their group.
Before today’s games, Arsenal were second on the the table on the Head-to-head rule as they had played a 1-1 draw away to PSG and conceded twice at home in the 2-2 draw. So to top Group A Arsenal needed to win away at Basel and pray that PSG do not win at home to Ludogerets.
Arsenal shot into a 4-0 lead at the home of Basel who have won the Swiss league 7 years consecutively with a hat trick from Lucas Perez and Iwobi putting the icing on the cake with the 4th goal. The hosts pulled one back through Ivorian international Serge Doumbia. PSG surprisingly could only draw 2-2 at home to see Arsenal finish the Group stages on top of the log and Iwobi could heave a sigh of relief as his howler against PSG no longer mattered.
