After the departures of Chisom Chikatara and Michael Olaha from Abia Warriors, the Umuahia based club is not in lack of another homegrown talent who is now unleashing his flair and evolving his professional brilliance with the elite club playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Despite the number of “ready-made” footballers Abia Warriors employed, this season, to boost the squad, Shedrack Asiegbu has maintained a steady stride in confidence and is fast developing into the club’s midfield marshal.
Frankly, Asiegbu’s growth is not a thing of surprise. Joining the club in 2015 from New Generation Academy the same academy that produced chikatara and Olaha, he took no time to break into the first team and has played consistently under every gaffer that took charge of the dugout at every point in Abia Warriors.
A burstling, all action left footed midfield general, Shedrack whose strength and skill on the ball reminds one of the Ghanaian international Sulley Muntari is currently one of the midfielders breething strength to the attack and covering every blade of grass on the pitch to protect his defense line.
20 year old Shedrack is at home in central midfield as a playmaker and also adept at playing just behind the striker where his strength and skill will create opportunities for his team mates. He is also blessed with a ferocious shot on his preferred left foot. His strength and mobility also sees him able to put in a shift in defensive midfield if his coaches deem it fit to play him there for tactical reasons.
So far, Asiegbu has featured in every Abia Warriors game this season and has played influential roles which has seen the club maintain an impressive start and they are currently sitting comfortable on the top half of the log.
Asiegbu dreams big. The lad sees Arsenal midfielder, Ozil as a role model. For Asiegbu, playing like the German international and aiming to surpass his professional careers at Real Madrid and Arsenal is a source of profound inspiration. There is no better way to corroborate these aspirations than the high level of commitment and hard work the Abia Warriors midfielder dedicates to his job.
For the NPFL 2016/17 season, Asiegbu has outlined some noble feats he hope to achieve and this includes netting not less than 10 goals and inspiring his team to win the title or better still pick a continental ticket.
Abia Warriors is a club that has built a reputation of grooming talents. The likes of Chisom Chikatara, Ndifreke Effiong, Michael Olaha, Peter Onyekachi rose to prominence through the ranks of the Umuahia based football outfit; Shedrack Asiegbu is another talent with great potentials of joining the stars in the Nigerian football landscape.
