An explanation on why FC Nantes defender Chidozie Awaziem made the Super Eagles list for the upcoming World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Cameroon has been revealed.
Awaziem made his competitive debut for Nigeria in the 0-2 loss to South Africa, and despite criticism by some fans and section of the Nigerian media the coach kept faith with the FC Porto man who is on loan to Nantes.
A source close to the Super Eagles Technical Crew noted that the 20 year old centre back who made his debut for Nigeria was included in the team by coach Gernot Rohr based on his recent run of games for French Ligue 1 Nantes.
” He has played in all three of Nantes games, he was unfortunate in their last game as he was shown a red card, but overall he has been involved which means he is fit for the Cameroon game”,
On the reason why Kenneth Omeruo was placed on standby, our sources revealed the Chelsea defender has two weeks to sort out his club situation if he wants to be considered by Rohr, because he has not been playing games at Chelsea
” If Omeruo fails to play any game between now and when the camp opens. He can as well count himself out of the team, he need to sort out his future before he can be included in the Super Eagles team. It’s that simple”.
