Enyimba FC of Aba finished 3rd on the lot of the 2016-17 Nigeria Professional Footbal League (NPFL) season and by virtue of that qualified to represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Ifeanyi Anemena had a chat with www.papilonews.com and he did not hide his excitement about the feat.
“We really worked had for this,” the no-nonsense defender said. “This calls for more hard work because playing in the continent is tough. However, the feeling is great. I am delighted about this and so are my team mates because we put in a lot of work and we recorded some successes at the end of the day.”
According to Anaemena, it was tough to maintain the spirit of playing at home, while the club executed all home games in Calabar, instead of their ancestral home, Aba which has the Enyimba stadium under construction for the past two seasons.
Hear him: “it was rough for us. The second time we are playing out side Aba and we had to keep giving extra efforts to see that we chunk out points even in the absence of our home crowd.”
Anaemena is one of the players in the club who have played in the Enyimba stadium and then in Calabar. He stated that “the difference is clear and it went with a lot of had work.”
Enyimba International FC failed to make it out of the group stage in their last continental outing, the CAF Champions League. This time they are billed to play in the CAF Confeder
