Abia Angels took the lead twice to defeat opponents, Ibom Angels 2-1 in the second leg of their Aiteo Cup semi-final clash in Umahia, but the Umahia based side could not advance to the final owing to the aggregate score after they were beaten 2-0 in Uyo.

However, manager of Abia Angels and former Super Falcons goalkeeper, Ann Chiejine insists she “is proud of the girls” who nobody gave the chance before the start of the competition.

“My players did well. We were the under-dogs considering that we just qualified last year for the premier league and played against a team that has been there for so long, more experienced that us. We just has a careless mistake if not we would have advanced,” Chiejine remarked.

On the growth of female football in the country, here is what she had to say: “the ground is raising. This is not where we used to be; if you go back in time you will see that there has been a lot of progress.”

She also gave credit to the head of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Aisha Falode for making efforts to lift the face of female football in the country.

Meanwhile, Ibom Angels are through to the final of the 2017 Aiteo Cup and will lace up against rivals Rivers Angels in Jos.
