Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Abia Warriors FC has officially unveiled their new manager, Rafael Everton who has been with the team since last week. The unveiling took place at the main bowl of the Umahia Township Stadium, Umahia in the presence of newsmen.
Everton who led his former employers FC Ifeanyi Ubah to the club’s historic Federation Cup triumph last season, agreed a two-year contract and has been charged to “restructure and reorganize the playing architecture of Abia Warriors.”
Making the presentation, chairman of the Umahia based outfit, High Chief Emeka Inyama noted that it is in the best interest and overall good of the club that they have found Everton worthy to manage the team.
“It is a two-year contract, it is personal to him but it is a good deal,” Inyama remarked. “We are in the league for two purposes: the business of football, get quality players who are marketable so as to sustain the club and secondly aspire to be one of the first three clubs at the end of the season and pick a continental ticket as it were,” he added.
On his part, Everton revealed that he took the job because he was willing to come back to Nigeria to work and he believes by the end of the season he can achieve the club’s desire to land a continental ticket.
Meanwhile, Abia Warriors have promoted three of its feeder team players to join the main squad for the NPFL 2017/18 season. The lads are Prince James and Chidera Friday both midfielders like wise Emeka Chukwudi who plays from the flanks.
