Ex-Nigeria international, Ifeanyi Ekwueme have described the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament as one of the best-organized football event in the country. The former Super Eagles and LZS Piotrówka midfielder noted that the tournament is fast becoming a platform where Nigerian top football clubs gauge their readiness for the season and put their players in good shape for the task ahead.

Ekwueme who was the Cup Bearer for the final which saw Kano Pillars beat Lobi Stars, praised the organisers of the event stressing that their dedication to putting up a top-notch tournament is commendable.

“Looking at the bigger picture, you will agree that the Gold Cup is one of the pre-season tournament to be reckon with in the country. The tournament has succeeded in attracting most of the big clubs in Nigeria and most of these clubs use this well-organised football event to make sure they prepare well for the next season,” Ekwueme said.

By way of supporting the tournament, Ekwueme donated Select branded jerseys to the best player, and highest goal scorer of the tournament. He also gave out a cartoon of ball, which will be used to execute the tournament next year and a check of N100,000.

The Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament lasted for ten days and featured seven NPLF clubs including Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, MFM FC, Katsina United, Kwara Unites and Rivers United. Others include Niger Tornadoes FC Ebedei, ABS FC and Remo Stars.
