Coach Yusuf Salisu who is handling the Super Eagles team representing the country in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) has revealed that his lads are participating in the LMC organized pre-season tournament to test some of the players who were not part of the qualifier and the WAFU cup and also prepare the team for the Championship holding in Morocco next year.

“If you observe the group of players around, you can see that we have players that were not involved in build up to the CHAN qualifier and were not involved in the WAFU Cup. So, we want to test the new players and compare them with those who have been part of the team and from there we see how we can make the final selection,” Said Salisu to

All the players who were invited to camp were on ground for the first training session, except Ifeanyi Ifeany, Gabriel Okechukwu of Akwa United, Austin Oladapo of Enyimba and Rangers’ Orji Kalu. Katsina United’s star man Destiny Ashadi did not partake in the training due to a knock he sustained in the just concluded Alhan pre-season tournament.

The likes of Emeka Ogbugh of Rivers United and Nura Mohammed from El-Kanemi replaced Joseph Osadiaye and Afeez Aremu who is currently out of the country.

The CHAN Eagles will play their first game against NPFL Champions Plateau United on Wednesday at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kano.

Speaking on the preparation and itinerary of the team after the pre-season tournament, Salisu remarked that the technical crew has submitted their programme and after a meeting with the federation, they will know when to depart for CHAN 2018.

He further noted that the technical crew of the team has secured video clips of their CHAN group opponents and when all is set, they will review the clips and plan on how to execute each game.

The NPFL pre-season tourney holds from 11 to 17 December 2018.
